Bis 220
Psy435 - This writing will describe two important laws that came about because the improvements in information technology results in new ethical problems requiring the formation of new laws. This first act is the do not call act, and the second act is the child’s internet protection act. This is an import issue because new technologies can lead to unethical business practices, and criminal exploits.
Do Not Call Act of 2003
Psy 435 - This law gives the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulating jurisdiction to create fees adequate to start and administer the requirements concerning the ‘‘do-not-call’’ registry of the Telemarketing Sales Rule, propagated in the Telemarketing and Consumer Fraud and Abuse Prevention Act. New information technology helps telemarketers create lists of telephone numbers that are auto-dialed by a computer maximizing the call volume a telemarketer does in a given period.
Bis220 - Because of this, people received many unwanted calls that most people consider harassment. This act allows people to put their number on the do-not-call registry to stop telemarketers from calling them. It does not stop all calls, if a person has a business relationship with a business, that business may call that person (USLegal.com, 2012).
Child’s Internet Protection Act
Bis 220 - The Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) is a federal law ratified by Congress to cover issues about offensive content over the Internet on computers in schools and libraries. CIPA levies a particular set of requirements on schools or libraries that receive money for Internet access. In 2001, the FCC delivered guidelines implementing CIPA. The internet is unregulated in nature so requires supervision where a child has access. Parents want their children protected against pornography and other content when accessing the internet. New technology creates this problem but also solves it by the use of filters and the blocking of certain types of websites.
